G20: German 2nd Machine Gun Battalion, zbV200 Regiment, 15th Panzer Division, North Africa, November-December 1941
To make up the shortage of infantry within 15th Panzer Division, the zbV200 special mission HQ was added with this 2nd MG Battalion (and the 15th Motorcycle Battalion) to make a second infantry regiment of sorts. Even though it had no rifle platoons it was equipped with anti-tank rifles and a full heavy weapons company, so it was clearly intended to operate as an infantry battalion. Ideal for defensive scenarios.
This is the formation’s organisation at the time of Operation Crusader.
